My part of Lisboa
Jul. 28th, 2006 03:15 pmI am working at the Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST for short), which is the highest engineering school in Portugal.
It is actually a part of the Universidade Tecnica de Lisboa, but more or less it operates independently. IST has two campuses: Alameda and Tagus Park, Alameda is more research oriented, while Tagus Park is leaned towards nurturing undergraduate students. Here's how the IST looks like from the hill where I live:

Note that I shall not provide any sensitive information, e.g. where the nuclear lab is, where my department is, and even the picture of my coffee machine!
The IST is in the epicentre of a regular city life: small cafe shops

residential areas and even the Russian Embassy on the neighbouring street (with a huge BMW at the front gate symbolizing the power of the nation). On the other hand, if you stand at the IST stairways and look around:

you will put yourself into shoes of Salazar, the fascist dictator of Portugal in the late 1930's, who apparently liked to stand on these stairs and receive citizens' admiration.
And if you happen to have eagle's eyes, you will enjoy a scenic view of athletically built wet women made of stone:

On this epic note I shall withdraw.
